STUDENTS
Attention CPMA students: While head lice infestations are more common in elementary school students, middle school students can also catch and spread head lice to others. The most important things to remember and practice so you don't catch head lice are not sharing brushes/combs with others, not sharing pillows or hats/beanies/hoodies/hair accessories with others, and not having head to head contact – for example, hugging closely where heads/faces are directly in contact. Once you have head lice, it is a very timely process to get rid of them. Hair must be washed with a very strong shampoo containing a chemical to kill the live lice. Unfortunately, the shampoo does not kill the eggs, also called nits, that the lice lay. The eggs/nits are very sticky and are difficult to remove from hair strands, in fact, it requires many hours of combing single strands of hair with a very fine nit comb to remove each and every egg/nit. If all eggs/nits are not removed, they will hatch and become live lice, lay more eggs, well, you get the picture. Also, all bedding and clothing must be washed in the hottest water possible and anything that cannot be washed must be put in the dryer on the hottest setting for at least 30 minutes and then placed in plastic air-tight bags for at least 48 hours. Of note, head lice are essentially the sloths of the insect world, meaning they move very slowly, they want to be as close to your scalp as possible nearest the blood supply, and they do not fly, jump, or spread any known diseases. The moral of the story is: if you follow the instructions above, you won't have to worry about catching and then having to try and get rid of lice.

From Ms. Schroeder
Have you ever thought about being a Special Ed. Teacher? Come to advisory in room 306 for just 6 weeks and meet an Educational Specialist and her students. She can help you answer questions you might have about jobs in Special Education and schooling requirements. Also, you can be a hands on helper with the students by reading to them, playing music for them, etc. If you are interested, please come by room 306 and talk with Mrs. Schroeder.

Yearbook Sales:
The price of the year book is now $50.00. Even though the price has increased the yearbooks sell out every year. Make sure you get one ordered soon.
